Love, The Cosmic Dance
Book Five · The Game · Chapter 34

Changing Your Reality Is Optional

Some of you came to this book because something in your life feels wrong. Your Reality is limited, or painful, or flat, and you want it to be different. That is an honest reason to read a book like this, and I do not want to dodge it.

So let me answer it directly, and then let me say something that may surprise you.

The path, once more

If you want your Reality to change, the path is the one we have walked. You cannot touch the numerator. You cannot touch the denominator. You can act on the Reality you have, and your actions become history, and history becomes Actual, and Actual retrains your Prediction. Over time, the denominator follows the record.

And if you want the shortest description of how that path looks when it is walked most easily, it is this: it looks like a person who has fallen in love with the divine. When you are in love, your actions shift without effort. Your days rearrange themselves around what you love. The history you make begins to look like a life lived in the presence of the dance, and your Prediction slowly learns to expect that life. Your Reality moves toward harmony, not because you reached in and adjusted it, but because the record you are making has changed what arrives.

You cannot force it

But you cannot make yourself fall in love. Not with a person, not with a realization, not with the divine. It happens or it does not. It is your whole sum of commitments swinging into line, from beneath awareness, in a way you do not command.

So I cannot hand you a method. I can only describe the shape of what happens when it happens, and tell you that it is real.

The surprise

Here is what I want you to hear.

Changing your Reality is optional.

There is no divine mandate that you change. There is no requirement, for fulfilling your purpose, that you become more peaceful or more spiritual or more anything. You are the divine's feeler, and you are already feeling. You are already fulfilling your role. If your Reality stays exactly as it is for the rest of your life, you will not have failed.

The divine is not disappointed in you. The divine is not hurt if you keep hiding. The divine does not wait impatiently for you to improve. You cannot let the divine down, because the divine does not need you to be other than what you are. He loves her. She is complete. And the dance goes on, through you, exactly as you are.

Why I tell you this

I tell you this not to discourage you from walking the road. Walk it, if it calls you. It is a good road, and the people I know who have walked it seem glad they did.

I tell you this because many people who set out to change their Reality are carrying, underneath the desire, a fear: that they are wrong as they are, that they will be judged if they do not change, that they are falling short of something that is demanding more of them.

That fear is a story. It is a story about a future in which you are condemned for not changing, and like all such stories, it is fiction written into the place where the numerator will be. It is not what is arriving.

What is arriving is love. It always has been. You can change, or not. You can seek, or hide. You can fall in love with the divine, or remain attached to the many particular things you love. Every one of those paths is held. Every one of them is felt. None of them is outside the dance.

Freedom from the project

There is a particular kind of peace that comes when you stop treating yourself as a project.

It does not mean you stop growing. Often it is the beginning of real growth, because growth that is driven by fear tends to be brittle, and growth that comes from love tends to last. But it means that growth stops being a condition of your worth. You are not loved because you are improving. You are loved, past tense, already, in moments beyond counting. Whatever you do next is added to that, not substituted for it.

If you wish to change your Reality, you now know how the change happens. If you choose to remain as you are, that is perfectly acceptable too. Either way, you are in the dance. Either way, he loves her. Either way, she is complete.
